“The fabric for these four small pillows came from an experiment using Sun-activated dye and a sculptural shade structure made from cardboard strips. After stretching the raw, white fabric and coating with the dye, the shade structure was placed on top of it and exposed to the sun for about 20 minutes. Where the sun hit the fabric directly, the dye turned darker but in the areas where the cardboard strips cast their shadows, the color of the dye remained lighter. In places where the cardboard edges were in direct contact the fabric retained its original white color after washing and rinsing. The look of the design was affected by the amount of Ultraviolet light available at the time of year, the angle of the sun, the weather conditions, the time of the day and duration of the exposure.” -Andy Vogt
